Mediocrity by Force:
Living a mediocre life is like having an abusive parent. Nothing that you do is ever good enough to pass for more than average, and every failure is met with the greatest scorn. So the cashier who quits his job to find himself is not a heroic figure. Had he been distinguished as a workhorse up until his revelation, the departure would be dramatic, and the love of his admirers would compel many to follow him into the mysterious abyss. Yet the society that he agreed to serve never allowed him to be more than a cashier. No one gains influence by one's subservience; one only gains a puppet status. Our society does not "allow" for mediocrity; it COERCES us into it, some times even by force. Your true potential lies beyond the role you play for others. Dm.A.A.
